Biodiesel pilot plant
The International Virtual Institute for Global Change – IVIG/COPPE/UFRJ has a biodiesel pilot plant dedicated to the development and evaluation of technologies aimed at producing renewable fuels with a lower environmental impact.
The infrastructure enables experimental studies on the production, separation, and purification processes of biofuels, contributing to the advancement of more efficient and sustainable technological solutions.
IVIG also works through multi-sectoral partnerships, integrating universities, public authorities, and the private sector, with the goal of supporting the sustainable implementation of the use of biodiesel and other renewable energy sources.

Frações processadas
Samples of biofuels and processed fractions obtained during production and processing experiments. The different colors and compositions represent distinct stages of reaction, separation, and purification, used for quality analysis and characterization of the products resulting from energy conversion processes.

Coluna de destilação
Metal vessels connected by pipes are used for the chemical reaction between vegetable oil/fat and alcohol (methanol or ethanol) that generates biodiesel and glycerin.

Experimental reactors
Set of reactors and process vessels used in the IVIG/COPPE/UFRJ biodiesel pilot plant, intended for experiments in the production, separation and treatment of biofuels.
