These benthic environments harbor high biodiversity and perform essential ecological functions, such as nutrient cycling, support for food chains, and maintenance of environmental quality .
In this sense, benthic technology involves the use of innovative instruments and approaches, such as remote sensing, sediment sampling, biological monitoring, and the use of remotely operated underwater vehicles (ROVs), allowing the acquisition of precise data on the physical, chemical, and biological conditions of the seabed.
The application of these technologies makes it possible to identify environmental impacts, such as pollution, waste disposal, changes in land use, and the effects of climate change , in addition to supporting decision-making in licensing, management, and environmental conservation processes.
