Pilot Plant for Algae Processing

IVIG plays a strategic role in the development of the blue bioeconomy in partnership with the Center for Studies of Algae Products (CEPA/UFRJ) , coordinated by Professor Ana Lúcia Vendramini and Professor Marcos Freitas , an initiative focused on research, innovation, and sustainable development in the algae farming chain. As part of this collaboration, the pilot algae processing plant installed on IVIG's premises stands out , allowing for the processing of biomass on a semi-industrial scale and the development of high value-added products.

The project also integrates the marine algae farm located on Ilha Grande, managed by Professor Pedro Paulo Vieira , where sustainable techniques are applied to produce the macroalga Kappaphycus alvarezii . The connection between cultivation, research, and processing strengthens the production chain, driving innovative solutions with applications in food, agriculture, cosmetics, and bio-inputs, as well as promoting scientific development, income generation, and a positive socio-environmental impact.
